Dear Lir.Harrison,
Please refer to your letter of the 5th September and your subsequent undated letter about your return journey.
2. I am sorry to confirm that in spite of the point you make subsistence for the extra days you would spend in singapore would be at your own expense. I am also sorry to say that the Colonial Office say twenty four hours' board and lodging in Singapore would cost about 320 Straits, or £2.6.8.
3. I was not quite sure from your letters whether your difficulty was the expense as such or whether you had in mind the limited amount of foreign exchange allowed you. In the latter connexion you will of course remember that Singapore is in the sterling area. You could therefore, if you wished to stay in Singapore at your own expense, take with you additional travellers cheques expendable only within the sterling area. Your bank manager would be able to tell you the necessary procedure, but I understand there is no difficulty.
I shall be glad to k ow as soon as possible what you have decided, in order that arrangements for your return journey may be completed. When I spoke to the Colonial Office your letter had not
